SUMMARY:Everett Shinn: Operatics and Nico Muhly: Pastoral (Indoors/Outdoors)
DESCRIPTION:Experience the vibrant history of Planting Fields through the creations of two dynamic artists commissioned to make site-specific work here a century apart. Encounter the decorative and dramatic work of Everett Shinn in four “acts” beginning with the second floor gallery in Coe Hall\, followed by Mai Coe’s Dressing Room\, the Reception Room and culminating in the 1915 Tea House in the Italian Garden. A lover of theater\, music\, and performance of all kinds\, Shinn embraced the decorative and throughout his long career he created works on paper\, canvas\, furnishings\, architecture\, even pianos and stage sets\, that engaged with a raucous decorative aesthetic often termed Rococo revival. Along the way\, you will experience the sound installation of contemporary American composer Nico Muhly\, whose two-part musical composition emanates from the piano inside Coe Hall and then is radically transformed into a continuous loop of immersive sound that uses music to transform the experience of the Shinn-designed Tea House interior and manicured Italian Garden into a new auditory encounter. \n\nRegister Here
