SUMMARY:Fashioning Desire: The Art of Gerda Wegener
DESCRIPTION:Explore our spring exhibition\, Fashioning Desire: The Art of Gerda Wegener in this self guided experience at Coe Hall. Approximately 60 artworks by Danish artists Gerda Wegener (1886 – 1940) and her spouse Lili Elbe (born Einar Wegener\, 1882 – 1931) will be integrated into various rooms throughout Coe Hall\, alongside a selection of art and ephemera from the Planting Fields Foundation collection. A contemporary of W. R. and Mai Coe\, Gerda Wegener’s Art Deco and Art Nouveau paintings and drawings quickly garnered attention in 1920s Paris\, where she lived and worked. Her fashion illustrations\, cosmetic advertisements\, and whimsical\, erotic drawings celebrated the “New Woman”: independent\, striking\, and strong. \nThe purchase of a ticket for “Coe Hall: Designing Nature Inside and Out” will entitle you to a self-guided tour of “Fashioning Desire: The Art of Gerda Wegener” on the same date\, when applicable\, with proof of purchase. \nOffered Thursdays through Sundays from 2:00pm – 4:00pm\nMembers: Free\nGeneral Admission:\nAdults: $10\nSeniors 62+: $9\nYouth 7-17: $5\nChildren Under 7: Free \n\nRegister For The Tour

SUMMARY:Everett Shinn: Operatics and Nico Muhly: Pastoral (Indoors/Outdoors)
DESCRIPTION:Experience the vibrant history of Planting Fields through the creations of two dynamic artists commissioned to make site-specific work here a century apart. Encounter the decorative and dramatic work of Everett Shinn in four “acts” beginning with the second floor gallery in Coe Hall\, followed by Mai Coe’s Dressing Room\, the Reception Room and culminating in the 1915 Tea House in the Italian Garden. A lover of theater\, music\, and performance of all kinds\, Shinn embraced the decorative and throughout his long career he created works on paper\, canvas\, furnishings\, architecture\, even pianos and stage sets\, that engaged with a raucous decorative aesthetic often termed Rococo revival. Along the way\, you will experience the sound installation of contemporary American composer Nico Muhly\, whose two-part musical composition emanates from the piano inside Coe Hall and then is radically transformed into a continuous loop of immersive sound that uses music to transform the experience of the Shinn-designed Tea House interior and manicured Italian Garden into a new auditory encounter. \n\nRegister Here
