First Fridays: Living Legacies, An Exclusive Curator-Led Tour with Marie Penny

Experience a behind-the-scenes look at Planting Fields Foundation's exhibitions with a presentation on "Legacy of Landscape: Innocenti–Webel’s Designs for the Coes" and the history of our gallery spaces, followed by a curator-led tour exploring the connections between art, landscape, and history.

Little Learners

Join us every other week from 10 – 11am for Little Learners, a fun, hands-on program designed for children ages 2–5 and their grown-ups. Each session offers a new theme with nature stories, creative crafts, and outdoor play, perfect for making special memories together in the gardens and grounds of Planting Fields!

Discover the Camellia House at Planting Fields!

Join Sustainability Coordinator Rebecca Slagle and Michael D. Coe Archivist Marie Penny to explore over 200 blooming camellias, the historic planthouse designed by the Olmsted Brothers, and the fire that once threatened this treasured collection. Learn camellia-growing traditions, see modern hardy varieties outdoors, and get tips for your own garden.

The Camellia Festival

Step into a vibrant winter festival and see 200+ camellia varieties in full bloom! Explore the Camellia Greenhouse with guided tours, live music, and a chance to meet friendly ladybugs. In the Main House, enjoy Typewriter Poets, a historic Coe camellia display, curated tea tastings, and hands-on crafts. A multi-sensory celebration of winter’s most elegant bloom!

Winter Break Youth Workshop: Backyard Birders

Join us for an engaging, nature-focused workshop designed to introduce young explorers to the remarkable birds that call Long Island home in the winter.

Creative Spirits: The Story of the Camellia House

This special daytime edition of Creative Spirits offers guests exclusive access to the spectacular winter camellia display in the historic Camellia House, followed by a talk in the Main House by renowned horticulturist and Arboretum Director Vincent Simeone. Attendees will enjoy a self-guided stroll through the largest camellia collection under glass in the Northeast, learn about the history and cultivation of these elegant blooms, and savor a tea-based signature drink as part of this unique seasonal experience!

Winter Break Youth Workshop: Landscape Design

Step into the world of landscape architecture and discover how designers shape the outdoor spaces we love. In this special youth workshop, participants will explore the work of renowned landscape architect firm Innocenti-Webel, whose visionary designs combine beauty, function, and nature. 

First Fridays: Through Stained Glass

Explore the extensive collection of medieval and renaissance stained glass at Planting Fields!

During this walk and workshop for adults, participants will discover the travels and stories of a few of the forty-plus stained-glass panes that illuminate the historic house-museum, the Main House. Guests will be guided by Emily Leger, Planting Fields Foundation’s Collections and Exhibitions Manager, and will not only dive into the Corpus Vitrearum, an International scholarly compilation of historic glass windows, but also make their very own faux stained-glass to bring home and enjoy! 

2026 Junior Ranger Summer Camp (Ages 5 – 8)

The ultimate summer outdoor adventure at Planting Fields returns July 2026!

Campers will dive into nature-based play, creative arts and crafts, and sensory activities that spark curiosity and a love of the outdoors. They’ll explore gardens and woodlands, connect with plants and animals, and learn simple ways to care for nature—all while having fun, building confidence, and discovering the joy of the natural world.

Campers will step into the role of true Junior Rangers, tackling hands-on engineering challenges, practicing conservation skills, and learning real-world ways to care for the environment. Along the way, they’ll enjoy creative arts and crafts, build nature awareness, and grow as confident, curious environmental stewards!
