A piece of history returns to Planting Fields 🪟 ⁠
We’re happy to have one of our historic stained glass windows back after being carefully restored by Alyssa Feihel (@smalltowngirlarts)! ⁠
⁠
A protective sheet of plexiglass had become significantly discolored over the last few decades, preventing light from coming in through the window. Newly installed plate glass will continue to protect the stained glass elements and allow light to filter through, letting us enjoy the beautiful colors of the window as they were meant to be seen! New lead came, which is the metal frame holding the glass, and a thorough cleaning have brought this window from the 1500s back to life. ⁠

This isn’t just a window. It’s a little piece of history that you can see and learn from: ⁠
⁠
🔹Join us for First Fridays: Through Stained Glass on 3/6 to learn more about our stained-glass collection. $25 per person, includes DIY stained glass making workshop! Limited space is left. ⁠

We’re proud to announce the launch of the Planting Fields Foundation Service-Learning Corps, made possible through generous support from Parks & Trails New York. This new initiative will engage three cohorts of young adults (ages 18 – 26) while delivering 5,000 hours of supervised service on mission-critical projects across Planting Fields. ⁠
⁠
Rooted in Peace Corps and AmeriCorps traditions, the program pairs stewardship with learning—building participants’ skills, fostering a sense of belonging, and creating visible public benefits, while helping shape the civic leaders of tomorrow. ⁠
