Every day, but especially today, we honor all of our nation’s veterans, including Henry Coe, the youngest son of the Coe’s. He served in the United States Navy Armed Guard (USNAG) during World War II. The USNAG was a branch of the U.S. Navy that protected merchant ships from attack—it was dissolved after the war. ⁠

Don’t let your plants look like this. It’s D-R-Y; that means you should be watering your landscape and garden plants! We are down six inches in rainfall since any measurable precipitation in early September. Plus, warmer-than-normal temperatures and bright, sunny days are not helping. ⁠

What should you do? Water! Soil is so dry that any water you apply may run off and not penetrate the soil. Water deeply to get it to the root systems. Stay the course – your plants will thank you next spring. ⁠

The name of this variety might convince you - Camellia sasanqua ‘Long Island Pink.’ It’s time to enjoy our beautiful camellias at Planting Fields. Yesterday was a huge day for Planting Fields Foundation!

We celebrated the completion of phases one and two of the Main Entrance Drive project with our friends @nystateparks
@reptomsuozzi @jakeblumencranz_ny and hundreds of people who love Planting Fields.

On your next visit, make sure to walk the 2000 linear feet of ADA accessible pathways, admire the restored Olmsted Brothers vision, including the planting of 101 native oak trees, and explore this 409-acre site with the newly installed wayfinding signage.

This $2 million dollar major enhancement project was led by Planting Fields Foundation and was largely funded by the not-for-profit’s incredible donors as well as grants from @parkstrailsny and the NYS Environmental Protection Fund.

Their generosity, as well as a lot of teamwork has successfully made this beloved site more accessible and easier to navigate for all of its visitors!
