Parks are for everyone – even our littlest learners!

Join us for Little Learners, a fun, hands-on program designed for children ages 2 – 5 and their grown-ups. Each session introduces a new theme with nature stories, creative crafts, and outdoor play—perfect for making special memories together in the gardens and grounds of Planting Fields! Whether you join us for one class or the whole season, each visit offers something new to explore.

 

2026 Class Schedule

January
1/2 – Winter Wonders
Bundle up for a chilly adventure! We’ll hear a wintry tale, explore the frosty outdoors, and make a craft to bring the magic of the season home.

1/16 – Animal Tracks
Whose footprints are those? Little learners will practice being nature detectives as we search for signs of animals in winter.

1/30 – Snowflake Science
Every snowflake is one-of-a-kind! We’ll discover their frosty secrets through a story and a sparkling creation.

February
2/13 – Camellias
Camellias bring a splash of color to the cold days of winter! We’ll enjoy a floral story, create a blossom craft, and take a quick trip to our Camellia Greenhouse!

2/27 – Evergreen Explorers
Why do some trees stay green all year long? We’ll read a story, explore evergreens up close, and create a nature-inspired craft.

March
3/13 – Wild About Weather
Sunshine, raindrops, and gusty winds—what will the day bring? We’ll explore the wonders of weather through story, play, and hands-on fun.

3/27 – Signs of Spring
Spring is popping up everywhere—buds on trees, flowers in bloom, and animals on the move. We’ll listen to a seasonal story, make a springy craft, and look for changes outside.

April
4/10 – 5 Senses
See, smell, hear, touch, taste—let’s try them all! We’ll enjoy an exciting story, go on a sensory walk, and make a creative craft.

4/24 – Earth Day
Let’s celebrate our amazing planet! Through story, craft, and outdoor play, little learners will explore fun ways to care for the Earth.

May
5/8 – Garden Friends
The garden is full of helpful critters! We’ll share a story about pollinators and then explore how bees, bugs, and birds help things grow.

5/22 – Baby Animals
Who’s hatching, hopping, or buzzing this season? We’ll share a sweet story and explore the world of animal babies.

June
6/5 – Fun in the Sun
Let’s kick off summer with sunshine and smiles! We’ll read a bright story, play outdoors, and make a sunny craft.

July
7/3 – Hooray for Hummingbirds
Zoom, flutter, hover—hummingbirds do it all! Kids will enjoy a lively story, learn about these speedy birds, and craft a colorful creation.

7/17 – Veggie Garden
What’s growing in the garden? After a tasty tale, kids will make a veggie-inspired craft and explore our garden beds together.

7/31 – Busy Bees
Buzz, buzz! After a bee-filled story, little learners will discover how bees pollinate and make a craft inspired by these busy helpers.

August
8/14 – Froggy Fun
Hop into the world of frogs! We’ll share a ribbiting story, make a froggy craft, and explore outside to look for where frogs might live.

8/28 – Bug Safari
Creeping, crawling, flying, and buzzing—bugs are everywhere! Children will listen to a buggy tale, create their own insect craft, and go on an outdoor search for tiny critters.

September
9/11 – Marvelous Monarchs
Butterflies are on the move! Children will enjoy a fluttery story, learn about monarch migration, and create a winged craft.

9/25 – Super Seeds
Seeds may be small, but they’re full of surprises! We’ll read a seed story, explore how they travel, and plant one to take home.

October
10/9 – Pumpkins
Pumpkins can be big, small, bumpy, or smooth! We’ll enjoy a pumpkin story, craft something festive, and step outside to discover these fall favorites.

10/23 – Nocturnal Animals
Who’s awake when we’re asleep? We’ll discover the secret lives of nighttime animals through story, play, and craft.

November
11/6 – Amazing Acorns
Tiny acorns can grow into mighty oak trees! We’ll hear an acorn story, make a nutty craft, and explore outdoors to see who might be snacking on them.

11/20 – Fall Forest Fun
The forest is full of crunchy leaves and autumn colors waiting to be explored. A fall story, craft and outdoor adventure will bring the season to life.

December
12/4 – Winter Birds
Chickadees, cardinals, and woodpeckers stay through the cold! We’ll read a birdy story, craft a feathered friend, and head outdoors to spot winter birds in action.

12/18 – Hello Hibernation
Do animals take long winter naps? Kids will cozy up with a hibernation story and learn how creatures rest through the cold months.

This is NOT a drop-off program. Only one guardian is admitted free with a registered child. Due to capacity limits, we cannot accommodate additional adults or unregistered children.
