Celebrating the Season

As we enter the holiday season at Planting Fields, with a chill in the air and snow on the ground, we hope you’ll come visit to experience something totally new here.  The holiday decor in Coe Hall this year will be unlike anything guests have seen in recent memory.  Planting Fields Foundation and New York State Parks have worked together in close partnership to “bring the outside in” with an abundance of fresh, live greenery – most of which has been sourced directly from the property.  After weeks of extensive planning and careful selection of live trees, fresh cuttings and vibrant poinsettia, the team has created a magnificent holiday display that will allow guests to reflect on the seasonality of Coe Hall and enjoy it with an added festive flair.  The natural elegance and beauty of evergreen branches, Magnolia, citrus accents, red and gold ribbons and beads represent the early twentieth century styles that were appreciated during the time period the Coe family lived here.

As you tour the home, take a moment to view the vitrines in the Dining Room where a series of Lenox plates commissioned by Caroline Coe and hand painted by Minga Pope Patchin will be on display.  Featuring scenes from beloved Coe family properties, including Coe Hall at Planting Fields, Shoshone Ranch and Coe Plantation, the plates were Christmas gifts from Caroline to W.R. and his son Robert D. Coe in 1937.  We are fortunate to have these dinner plates in our collection at Planting Fields Foundation.

We are excited to welcome visitors to enjoy a multitude of activities over the mid-December holiday weekend, beginning with the tree lighting in the Arboretum, a holiday concert in Coe Hall by Long Island Chamber Music Festival, visits with Santa, carolers, refreshments and shopping in the Garden Gift Shop in the Visitors Center.

Be sure to check the Happenings page on our website for dates, details and to make your reservations.

Hi! Could you tell me if you are doing the lighting of the Christmas Tree outside this year? If so, what is the date and time? Thanks!
