Member After Hours

Planting Fields welcomes its members to our new Member After Hours, hosted on the third Thursday of each month. Members are invited to visit Planting Fields after it closes to the public to have access to Coe Hall and its surrounding grounds, go on a special staff-led tour or talk, and mix and mingle with the membership community. The May Member After Hours will celebrate our spring exhibition, Everett Shinn: Operatics, with an opportunity for members to visit the four exhibition spaces, learn about the American modernist’s Rococo Revival works, and experience Shinn’s lush decorative style in its original verdant setting. Long Island Chamber Music

Long Island Chamber Music presents a program for violin and cello inspired by artist Everett Shinn’s renderings of theater scenes. Certified guide, Linda Lombardo, will lead a 2-hour walk throughout the Olmsted Brothers-designed landscape of Planting Fields that will promote mindfulness and connectivity with your surroundings. Nature and Notation: Birds and Beauty

Weaving together science and art, this drawing class offers participants an opportunity to combine field ecology and art as they investigate the Great Bird Blind Debate exhibition through guided observation and notational instruction. Instructor Hara Woltz is an artist and scientist who addresses the destruction and conservation of ecological systems through a variety of visual media. Enjoy springtime in bloom at Planting Fields by having a small variety of hot tea paired with individually bagged cookies outside in the Cloister Garden and aside the West Portico. Guests will also have the opportunity to encounter one of the site's unique architectural spaces that is part of the exhibition, Everett Shinn: Operatics, the 1915 Tea House in the Italian Garden.
