Farm Stand with Orkestai Farm

Stop by the Visitor Center at Coe Hall on Saturday, September 4 and visit our farm stand to learn about the site’s agricultural history. Centuries before the Coes established their estate, indigenous communities and European colonists farmed the loamy soil of Planting Fields. This agricultural tradition continues to this day. Come speak with farmers from Orkestai Farm, the organic farm at Planting Fields, and Planting Fields Foundation staff about produce, cultivation, and historic crops. Tea in Garden

Enjoy summertime in bloom at Planting Fields by having a small variety of flavorful teas paired with individually bagged cookies outside in the Cloister Garden and aside the West Portico. Guests will also have the opportunity to encounter one of the site’s unique architectural spaces that is part of the exhibition, Everett Shinn: Operatics, the 1915 Tea House in the Italian Garden. Steeped in the tradition of great male and female duets such as Johnny Cash and June Carter, Sasha Papernik and Justin Poindexter, who make up the musical duo Our Band, bring their award-winning songwriting, intimate harmonies, and Eastern-European flair to a rich Americana soundscape. Shibori Dye Workshop

Shibori is the Japanese word for a variety of manual resist dyeing techniques that involves shaping and securing the fabric before dyeing to create patterns. Explore your creativity and learn more about the art of shibori at Planting Fields in this hands-on workshop instructed by artist Rachel Dove. Member After Hours

Members of Planting Fields are invited to the park after it closes to the public on the third Thursday evening of each month for an exclusive experience that includes complimentary bites and beverages and a highlighted tour or activity. The September Member After Hours will include featured cocktails by a mixologist served in W.R Coe’s Prohibition bar and a guided house tour led by Planting Fields staff.

Conversations in Coe Hall: “Frederick Law Olmsted: Designing America” with Laurence Cotton

Join us on September 17 at Planting Fields to experience an illustrated presentation on the legacy of Frederick Law Olmsted, the famed designer of Central Park and founder of the landscape architecture firm that shaped Planting Fields. Writer, public historian, filmmaker, and consulting producer on the nationally broadcast PBS special “Frederick Law Olmsted: Designing America,” Laurence Cotton will present an information-rich and entertaining talk about Frederick Law Olmsted’s life, career, and legacy and will present a mini-travelogue of select Olmsted landscapes across North America designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, Sr. and sites—like Planting Fields—designed by his sons and the Olmsted Brothers landscape architecture firm. Before the presentation, guests will be led across the designed landscape by Gina J. Wouters, Executive Director of Planting Fields Foundation, who will speak about significant landscape areas at Planting Fields and their historical context. Come learn about this extraordinary legacy of a Renaissance man, view an Olmsted Brothers designed landscape, and discover why Olmsted’s philosophy, writings, and designs are still so relevant today.

Planting Fields Foundation Golf Classic

Enjoy a fun filled day of golf on the picturesque greens of the Mill River Club on Long Island's beautiful Gold Coast.  The day beings with brunch at 10:30 am, followed by a shotgun start at 1:00 pm.  Lunch will be served on the course, followed by cocktails and dinner on the fabulous outdoor patio.  The evening winds down with a chance to win amazing raffle prizes including wine and dinner, zip lining, a whale watching cruise and many more! Carlos Pavan

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at Planting Fields and come listen to Argentinian guitarist Carlos Pavan perform at Coe Hall. Carlos has performed at renowned venues such as Lincoln Center and New York City Center. Listen to the melodies of Central and South America and learn about the history of the Coe family’s archeological explorations and excavations that took place in Central and South America in the 1950s.

Collage Workshop: Symbolic Self Portrait

Come and explore your inner self, dive deep and look inward to discover and express your visual language at a collage workshop at Planting Fields led by Abby Youngs Weir, collage and creative artist. Abby will lead immersive art activities to discover your visual language and explore your creativity through an intrinsic lens. No artistic skill or art experience necessary, simply bring your open mind, willingness to look inward, curiosity, and expression of self through symbolic imagery.

We invite you to join us at Coe Hall on Thursday, October 21st to learn about the history of the stained-glass windows and enjoy light refreshments. Join Director of Museum Affairs and Chief Curator, Meredith Brown, for a deeper look at the many magnificent stained-glass windows imported from Europe, some of which date back to the Middle Ages, that were installed by the Coes at Planting Fields.

Lace up your shoes and get ready to enjoy our first ever 5K Walk/Run at Planting Fields Arboretum.   The event is open to participants of all ages and abilities. The Walk/Run features a timed 5K run and walk and Half Mile Kids Fun Run.  This event is open to participants of all ages and abilities. Kids are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes for the run. Everyone who signs up will receive a personalized bib and finisher medal. Stay for post walk/run festivities including cool down, music, lawn games and activities.

Conversations in Coe Hall: American Dynasty with Andrew Coe

Our November conversation will feature the writer and scholar Andrew Coe, the great-grandson of W.R Coe and Mai Rogers Coe. Coe will discuss the rise of the wealthiest families of Long Island and the creeping unsustainability of their lifestyles leading to the fall of the American dynasty. Coe will also be signing copies of his newly published book Pirates Gold: A Gilded Age Saga of Family, Money, and (Maybe) Murder, which will be available for purchase.

Conversations in Coe Hall: Interior Design Past and Present with Charlie Scheips and Hutton Wilkinson

This December, our conversation will feature Hutton Wilkinson, President and Creative Director of renowned American design firm Tony Duquette Inc, along with painter, curator, and author Charlie Scheips. They will discuss interior design and how it is preserved and interpreted today at Planting Fields.  Hutton and Charlie will share tips and tricks on how to style your own home.
