Planting Fields Foundation and The Heckscher Museum of Art are pleased to present the work of artist Courtney M. Leonard (b. Shinnecock, 1980), on Long Island this summer, through BREACH: Logbook 23 | ROOT at Planting Fields and COURTNEY M. LEONARD: Logbook 2004-2023 at The Heckscher Museum. Visit Plantingfields.org and Heckscher.org for more information about these two dynamic exhibitions, including new commissioned work by Leonard, and related programming at each location.

Leonard’s site-specific installation at Planting Fields will examine how the colonization of Long Island has impacted traditional Shinnecock foodways, and explore themes of food and cultural sovereignty, as well as ongoing ecological issues that endanger the Shinnecock Indian Nation and Long Island as a whole. Please join us on Saturday, June 10 to meet the artist and to celebrate the opening of this exhibition.

This exhibition opening will be held outdoors at Taxus Field, where the installation is located.

Please note there is uneven and hilly terrain. For special accommodations, more information or questions about this event please contact Katie Walsh, Community Engagement Manager at kwalsh@plantingfields.org or 516-922-8680.
