Every bird needs the same things to survive: food, water, shelter, and space. But what happens when those needs go unmet? In this session of Wings 2 Roots, young naturalists will start by building a picture of what a healthy bird habitat looks like, then investigate two of its quietest threats: invasive plants that crowd out the species birds depend on, and pollutants that silently harm food and water sources. We’ll move from the classroom to the arboretum grounds, where we can spot these threats and healthy habitats side by side.
More about the Wings 2 Roots Series
Grab your binoculars and your curiosity! Wings 2 Roots, with the CI Bird Sanctuary, is a three-part nature series for young explorers ages 5 – 12, set on the beautiful grounds of Planting Fields. Each session blends hands-on classroom activities with guided nature walks, connecting kids to the birds, plants, and ecosystems right in their own backyard. Along the way, naturalists will uncover what birds truly need to thrive, explore the forces that threaten their habitats, and discover the real ways they can make a difference. Register for the other class in the series!
