Planting Fields Foundation invites you to a special evening to celebrate the exhibitions, Everett Shinn: Operatics and the 2021 Catalyst commission, Nico Muhly: Pastoral (Indoors/Outdoors), a sound installation by Nico Muhly who will join us for the debut performance of his new site-specific composition. 

Cocktail Party, 6:30-9:00 PM 
Experience the exhibitions within Coe Hall, the Italian Garden and Tea House, and take in the last sunset of spring by the West Portico. Cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and canapes will be served.

This exclusive gathering with composer Nico Muhly will feature the debut performance of his newly commissioned sound installation played by Conor Hanick in the Gallery of Coe Hall. The event is limited to 40 tickets. Guests will enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the Great Hall followed by a seated dinner.

ABOUT NICO MUHLY 
Nico Muhly, born in 1981, is an American composer who writes orchestral music, works for the stage, chamber music and sacred music. He’s received commissions from The Metropolitan Opera: Two Boys, (2011) and Marnie (2018); Carnegie Hall, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, The Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Tallis Scholars, and King’s College, Cambridge, among others. He is a collaborative partner at the San Francisco Symphony and has been featured at the Barbican and the Philharmonie de Paris as composer, performer, and curator. An avid collaborator, he has worked with choreographers Benjamin Millepied at the Paris Opéra Ballet, Bobbi Jene Smith at the Juilliard School, Justin Peck and Kyle Abraham at New York City Ballet; artists Sufjan Stevens, The National, Teitur, Anohni, James Blake and Paul Simon. His work for film includes scores for The Reader (2008) and Kill Your Darlings (2013), and the BBC adaptation of Howards End (2017). Recordings of his works have been released by Decca and Nonesuch, and he is part of the artist-run record label Bedroom Community, which released his first two albums, Speaks Volumes (2006) and Mothertongue (2008).

ABOUT CONOR HANICK
A fierce advocate for the music of today, Hanick has premiered over 200 works and collaborated with composers both emerging and iconic. Among them, Hanick has worked with Pierre Boulez, Kaija Saariaho, and Charles Wuorinen, in addition to championing music by leading composers of his own generation, including Caroline Shaw, Matthew Aucoin, Samuel Adams, and Eric Wubbels. Hanick appears regularly as a recitalist and chamber musician and in recent seasons has been presented by the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, Caramoor Festival, Emerald City Music, the Walla Walla Winter Festival, and Charlottesville Chamber Music Festival. He is a founding member of the American Modern Opera Company (AMOC), a group of artists focused on developing discipline-colliding work. Since 2014 Hanick has been a faculty artist at the Music Academy of the West and in 2018 became the director of its Solo Piano Program. He has given lectures and masterclasses in Asia, Europe, and throughout the US, including but not limited to Northwestern University, the New England Conservatory, UCLA, and The Juilliard School, where he is a member of the chamber music and keyboard faculty. Hanick is a Yamaha Artist, a graduate of Northwestern University and the Juilliard School, and lives in Brooklyn, NY.
