Did you know that Planting Fields is home to hundreds of birds?
After a brief lesson on birds and birding from the North Shore Audubon Society, participants will explore the woodland trails from the Meadow District to the Costich and Wedell Gardens and Bird Sanctuary to search for and observe birds. They’ll receive the exclusive invitation to enter the Posh Bird Blind, an installment from our first Catalyst project, the Great Bird Blind Debate with Mark Dion and David Brooks, where they’ll learn more about the Coes and their love of birding from Sustainability Coordinator, Rebecca Slagle. Free standing photography welcome. Learn more about the Catalyst 2020: The Great Bird Blind Debate here.
This tour will take place in the woodland trails from the Meadow District to the Costich and Wedell Gardens and Bird Sanctuary. Please come prepared with your own binoculars. A very limited amount may be available.
More about First Fridays
This monthly series dives into the various themes that make up Planting Fields, with exclusive behind-the-scenes walking tours and workshops led by Planting Fields Foundation and New York State Parks staff, who are experts in their respective fields. From wellness and Olmsted landscape features to the life-stories of Coe family members and their unchallenged spectacular horticultural, historic and personal collections, participants of this series will see this site with a new lens. Each month a new theme is explored with at least one staff expert serving as your guide. This series will take place on the first Friday of each month.
