Come and explore your inner self, dive deep and look inward to discover and express your visual language at a collage workshop at Planting Fields led by Abby Youngs Weir, collage and creative artist. Abby will lead immersive art activities to discover your visual language and explore your creativity through an intrinsic lens. No artistic skill or art experience necessary, simply bring your open mind, willingness to look inward, curiosity, and expression of self through symbolic imagery.

We invite you to join us at Coe Hall on Thursday, October 21st to learn about the history of the stained-glass windows and enjoy light refreshments. Join Director of Museum Affairs and Chief Curator, Meredith Brown, for a deeper look at the many magnificent stained-glass windows imported from Europe, some of which date back to the Middle Ages, that were installed by the Coes at Planting Fields.

This conversational seminar will feature artists David Brooks and Mark Dion discussing their respective positions on ornithology, birding, and the creative process in relation to the inaugural Catalyst exhibition at Planting Fields that features their work, "The Great Bird Blind Debate."

Lace up your shoes and get ready to enjoy our first ever 5K Walk/Run at Planting Fields Arboretum.   The event is open to participants of all ages and abilities. The Walk/Run features a timed 5K run and walk and Half Mile Kids Fun Run.  This event is open to participants of all ages and abilities. Kids are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes for the run. Everyone who signs up will receive a personalized bib and finisher medal. Stay for post walk/run festivities including cool down, music, lawn games and activities.

Our November conversation will feature the writer and scholar Andrew Coe, the great-grandson of W.R Coe and Mai Rogers Coe. Coe will discuss the rise of the wealthiest families of Long Island and the creeping unsustainability of their lifestyles leading to the fall of the American dynasty. Coe will also be signing copies of his newly published book Pirates Gold: A Gilded Age Saga of Family, Money, and (Maybe) Murder, which will be available for purchase.

This December, our conversation will feature Hutton Wilkinson, President and Creative Director of renowned American design firm Tony Duquette Inc, along with painter, curator, and author Charlie Scheips. They will discuss interior design and how it is preserved and interpreted today at Planting Fields.  Hutton and Charlie will share tips and tricks on how to style your own home.

This January, our yoga classes return! Enjoy a morning of mindfulness in Coe Hall with a class led by Anne of Oyster Bay Yoga.

This special installment of Conversations in Coe Hall is being led by Denise Evans-Sheppard, Director of the Oyster Bay Historical Society, in honor of Black History Month. Denise will share the deep-rooted history of local African Americans and highlight their contributions to our North Shore community.

Planting Fields will serve as a host for the National Audubon Society’s Great Backyard Bird Count, taking place February 18 – 21. This nationwide effort asks local communities to aid local bird populations by spending time outdoors, counting, and submitting findings. Your participation gives scientists the data they need to protect dwindling local species.

Join us for the Planting Fields Camellia festival taking place in the stunning Camellia greenhouse, which was a collaborative design between Lowell & Sargent and the Olmsted Brothers. Enjoy live musical performances as you take in the blooming glory of Camellia sinensis and learn from experts about its unique botanical history, ecological significance, and enduring charm.

Join us for a birding tour on the grounds of Planting Fields in partnership with Theodore Roosevelt Bird Sanctuary and their expert guides! Spot and learn about local birds while helping scientists collect data during the National Audubon Society’s Great Backyard Bird Count.

Join Chief Curator Meredith Brown for a first look at our spring exhibition, Fashioning Desire: The Art of Gerda Wegener. Approximately 60 artworks by Danish artists Gerda Wegener (1886 – 1940) and her spouse Lili Elbe (born Einar Wegener, 1882 – 1931) will be integrated into various rooms throughout Coe Hall, alongside a selection of art and ephemera from the Planting Fields Foundation collection. A contemporary of W. R. and Mai Coe, Gerda Wegener’s Art Deco and Art Nouveau paintings and drawings quickly garnered attention in 1920s Paris, where she lived and worked.
