Painting at Planting Fields

Explore your creativity and join us for a painting class at Planting Fields where the landscape will be your inspiration. The artist instructors from Pinot's Palette have created a custom design of the gardens at Planting Fields for participants to recreate on the canvas through a step-by-step demonstration. At the end of the session, you will return home with your own painted version of Mai Coe’s Teahouse in the Italian Garden!  This class has been rescheduled from 2/10. Observation and Notation: The Great Bird Blind Debate

Weaving together science and art, this drawing class offers participants an opportunity to combine field ecology and art as they investigate the Great Bird Blind Debate exhibition through guided observation and notational instruction. Instructor Hara Woltz is an artist and scientist who addresses the destruction and conservation of ecological systems through a variety of visual media. Member After Hours

Planting Fields welcomes its members to our new Member After Hours, hosted on the third Thursday of each month. Everett Shinn: Operatics – Preview Event

All are invited to celebrate the opening of the new spring exhibition, Everett Shinn: Operatics, with an early access preview. Coe Hall will be closed to the public while preview guests experience the exhibition inside Coe Hall and in the 1915 Tea House in the Italian Garden. Chief Curator and Director of Museum Affairs, Meredith A. Brown will give introductory remarks and lead a Q&A. Panorama: Everett Shinn and The Eight

A member of The Eight – a group of American modernists at the turn of the century dedicated to artistic individuality and a philosophical commitment to creativity – Everett Shinn is best known for his paintings of gritty scenes of urban poor and vaudeville stages. A lover of theater, music, and performance of all kinds, Shinn embraced the decorative alongside the debased, and throughout his long career he created works on paper, canvas, furnishings, architecture, even pianos and stage sets, that engaged with a raucous decorative aesthetic often termed Rococo revival.
